September 2005

The month got off to a slow start, with very few migrants passing through southern Scotland (at least on the days I was able to get out anyway), so I contented myself with the usual suspects at Barns Ness.

Things got a bit more interesting in the middle of the month with the arrival of another Buff-breasted Sandpiper at John Muir CP, Lothian. Thankfully, this Buff-breasted was not associating with any other waders like the other one was, and was consequently far more approachable.

Another good bird that showed well was a juvenile White-winged Black Tern on the River Clyde at Lamington. It spent almost all of it's time quartering up and down the river searching for insects on the aquatic plants...

...but it did occassionally stop for a rest on some rocks.

The month ended much as it started - at Barns Ness photographing the common stuff again!
